Gateway Operational

India's 3rd and Gujarat's first Internet International Gateway

IceNet,
the largest and fastest-growing Internet Service Provider
in Gujarat, has launched IceGate -- its own 2-way private
Internet International Gateway. IceGate is first two way gateway
in Gujarat and third in India.
IceGate is now capable to offer Internet
users the fastest speed and reliable experiences on the World
Wide Web, connecting them directly to Tier 1 Internet. To
facilitate this, IceNet has set up 2-way 8/2 Mbps Earth Station
on top of Silicon Tower - IceNet Office. From this Earth Station,
IceNet will uplink to Japanese Satellite JCSAT-3, and from
the satellite, to a Hawaii teleport, which is in turn connected
to MAE West (Tier I Internet) through submarine Fiber Optic
Cables.
IceNet
had received in-principle clearance for IceGate from the Ministry
of Communication in March 2000. Now, after eight months of
rigorous follow up the SACFA, Wireless Planning Commission
and NOCC clearances have been obtained, enabling the company
to launch the Gateway.
Shri
Keshubhai Patel, Chief Minister of Gujarat, did the honors,
and Mr Bimal Shah - IT and Transport Minister, Gujarat
and Mr Stuart Brown - CEO and President, Skytiger- Hawaii,
were present as the guests of honour.
In
the monopoly era of VSNL the very important factor of speed
and reliability of service was ignored. With commissioning
of IceGate we will be able to offer blazing speed of surfing
on Internet and since the gateway is through a satellite it
will be very reliable.
What
is more, the commissioning of IceGate will enable IceNet to
extend its activities to the core areas of Internet. Soon,
the company will be selling high quality bandwidth to Corporates,
Software development companies and other ISPs, thus promoting
better quality Web life all around.
Beginning
with 8/2 Mbps Uncompressed Bandwidth (equivalent to 40 Mbps
of Compressed Bandwidth currently in use), IceGate will redefine
Internet services and surfing experiences for Indian Netizens.
IceNet
has also received inpriciple clearance to establish Gateways
at Baroda, Rajkot and Surat for, which further procedures
are going on. These will be first Network of high Quality
gateways in Gujarat.
What
is even more exciting, is that IceGate will also function
as a gateway to whole hoard of new-tech net services, such
as Web Casting, Video-conferencing, VPN, WAP, etc. These services
have not really been feasible in the region until now, owing
to the paucity of bandwidth."

Web
Hosting is major business, which is possible only with good
quality Bandwidth, now with commissioning of IceGate, IceNet
is establishing a large data center for hosting web sites
and collocation of web servers. This data center will be operational
by January 2001. This data center will have facilities like
100% DG power back up, State-of-the-Art finger print based
access control system, Fire proof data storage systems & world
class facilities which are existing in data centers like Exodus
and Globix in USA. We are also establishing a Network operation
Center for monitoring our wide Area Network.
Ice Gate is the latest in a series of technology surprises
from IceNet. And it certainly will
not be the last.
